British Army 1660-1704
John Tincey, Gerry Embleton
The period between the Restoration of Charles II in 1660 and Marlborough's decisive victory at Blenheim in 1704 is often seen as something of a 'backwater' of military history, however this 40-year pause was far from a period of peace and inactivity. It was marked by the defeat of the Monmouth Rebellion at Sedgemoor in 1685, the 'Glorious Revolution' in 1668, the ambush at Killiecrankie in 1689, the battle of the Boyne in 1690 and many other important military events. John Tincey's fine text examines the British Army during this eventful, if often overlooked, period.
